As many of you know, I make a lot of political ads. I’ve become something of a connoisseur of the form.
Most are so formulaic as to be invisible. Black and white shot of the opponent against dark cloud background with ominous music (tinkly minor piano preferred) or sunny shots of your candidate smiling with family, shaking hands with constituents, yadda yadda.
That’s why it’s such a joy when someone makes an ad that breaks the mold and recontextualizes the message.
This ad by NowThis Politics is, in my opinion, one of the most effective spots you’ll see this season. I only wish I’d made it.
